Despite just two weeks in office, Limpopo’s new Premier, Phophi Ramathuba, has become a trending topic over her social media presence.

Some have even likened her to a “female Panyaza Lesufi.”

PHOPHI RAMATHUBA ELECTED INTO OFFICE

On 14 June, Dr Phophi Ramathuba was elected as the Premier of Limpopo.

In her first tweet, she said, “I am humbled and grateful to accept the responsibility entrusted to me as the Premier of this great province. I am deeply honoured for the opportunity to lead Limpopo towards a future of progress, prosperity, and unity.”

Last year, Ramathuba—then provincial MEC for Health—made headlines when she chastised a foreign national patient in hospital for using resources meant for South Africans.

WHY IS LIMPOPO PREMIER TRENDING?

On the X platform, Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has become a running joke about placing her picture on various official documents.

From repeatedly changing her profile picture on the Office of the Premier X account, to featuring on various official statements – including a Father’s Day post, male circumcision, one thanking her family after being elected into office, and another announcing that religious leaders would be praying for her first day in office.
