A woman shared that she had said her final goodbyes at her previous place of employment after her retrenchment.

Using the handle @aphiwemxegwana on TikTok, Aphiwe Mxegwana shared her lasts before exiting the building. The video started with the woman entering a room with a keycard before logging off and unplugging her work computer. Next, Aphiwe and others made their way to a locker room to retrieve their belongings.

The clip ended with an up-close visual of a teary-eyed Aphiwe.

Woman soldiers on after retrenchment

Speaking to Briefly News, Aphiwe shared that the news broke her, leading her to move back home in the Eastern Cape. Although she could not cope, Aphiwe notes that she received support from the company.

She adds:

"The company looked for jobs for us, and I got employed."

Apart from her new job, Aphiwe has side hustles too, saying:

"I'm currently focusing on my business... I sell a lot of things. I hope it goes well so that I can settle my things, but I'm fine now."
