Lentils are a great source of non-heme iron which can help increase blood iron levels in individuals especially if iron deficient. This allows them to have more energy, and helps red blood cells properly oxygenate. Lentils can also help with digestion, and give relief when dealing with constipation. This is because of its high fibre content which can help with bulk waste and slow down water resorption which can make it more difficult to expel. Due to the high fibre and protein aspect, lentils are great for weight loss as it keeps you fuller for longer, which will help mitigate the cravings. Lastly, they are great for regulating blood sugar levels. Since they are not fast digesting, the sugar enters the bloodstream at a slower which allows insulin to do a better job at moving glucose to liver and muscle cells.
